Frequently Asked Questions
Honest answers to the questions we hear most often — about our process, pricing, technology, and what it's like to work with Webtoz.
General Questions
What does Webtoz actually do?
Webtoz is a full-stack web development, software engineering, and technology consultancy. We design, build, and advise on custom digital products — from MVPs and SaaS platforms to enterprise applications and digital transformation initiatives. We're not a template shop or a freelance marketplace. We're a premium technical partner for organizations that need serious engineering.
What makes Webtoz different from other agencies or freelancers?
Three things set us apart: Senior-led teams — every project is led by engineers with 8+ years of experience. Consultancy-grade thinking — we ask "why" before "how," ensuring every build serves a business purpose. Long-term partnership — most clients stay with us for ongoing development and strategic advisory, not just a single build. We treat your product like it's our own.
What types of companies do you work with?
We partner with startups (pre-seed to Series B), scale-ups, mid-market companies, and enterprises. Our clients typically share a few traits: they've outgrown no-code tools and templates, they need custom-built software, they value strategic technical guidance, and they're looking for a long-term technology partner — not a one-off vendor.
Where are you located? Do you work with remote clients?
We serve clients worldwide. Our team operates remotely with deep experience in distributed collaboration. We use modern communication tools (Slack, Notion, Linear, Zoom) to stay closely integrated with your team — regardless of time zone. We're comfortable working across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East.
What industries do you specialize in?
While we're technology-agnostic, we have particular depth in SaaS, fintech, healthtech, e-commerce/D2C, proptech, and EdTech. We also work extensively with agencies and design studios as a white-label development partner. That said, great engineering principles apply across industries — we're always excited to learn a new domain.
Process & Timeline
What does your typical process look like?
Our process has six stages: (1) Discovery — we understand your business problem and audit any existing systems. (2) Scoping & Proposal — clear architecture recommendations, timeline, and transparent pricing. (3) Architecture & Design — system design and UI/UX prototyping where applicable. (4) Development — agile, sprint-based delivery with regular demos. (5) QA & Launch — full testing, security review, and staged rollout. (6) Ongoing Partnership — retainer-based support, iteration, and roadmap planning.
How long does a typical project take?
It depends entirely on scope and complexity. An MVP might take 6–12 weeks. A full SaaS platform could be 4–8 months. An enterprise digital transformation could be a multi-quarter or multi-year engagement. During our discovery phase, we'll give you a realistic timeline based on your specific requirements — not an optimistic guess designed to win the project.
How do you handle scope changes mid-project?
Scope changes are normal — especially for startups and evolving products. We handle them transparently: if a change request comes in, we assess the impact on timeline and budget, discuss trade-offs with you, and get alignment before proceeding. Nothing happens behind the scenes that shows up as a surprise on an invoice. For retainer engagements, scope flexibility is built into the model.
Do you sign NDAs before discussing a project?
Yes, absolutely. We're happy to sign a mutual NDA before any detailed technical discussion. We understand that you're sharing sensitive business information, and we treat it with the confidentiality it deserves. Just let us know during your initial outreach.
What if I already have an existing codebase or development team?
That's very common. We can audit your existing codebase, identify technical debt and risks, and recommend a path forward — whether that means refactoring, rebuilding specific components, or integrating with what you already have. We also offer team augmentation: embedding our senior engineers directly into your existing team to fill capability gaps.
Pricing & Engagement
How much does a project cost?
We price based on value, scope, and complexity — not a flat menu. An MVP engagement typically starts in the $25K–$50K range. Full platform builds scale from there. Enterprise transformation engagements are scoped individually. During our discovery phase, we'll provide a detailed, itemized proposal with clear assumptions so you know exactly what you're investing in and why.
What engagement models do you offer?
We offer four flexible models: Project-Based — defined scope, fixed timeline, clear deliverables. Retainer Partnership — dedicated engineering or advisory hours each month for evolving products. Dedicated Team — a ring-fenced Webtoz team embedded in your workflow. Advisory Only — fractional CTO or consultancy with no direct build work. Most clients start with a project and transition to a retainer for ongoing development.
Do you require upfront payment?
For project-based engagements, we typically work on a milestone-based payment schedule: an initial deposit to begin, followed by payments tied to clearly defined deliverables. For retainer partnerships, we invoice monthly. We're transparent about payment terms from the very first conversation — no surprises.
What's included in a retainer partnership?
Retainer partnerships include: dedicated engineering or advisory hours each month, a named point of contact with priority response times, quarterly architecture and performance reviews, infrastructure monitoring and proactive maintenance, and regular roadmap planning sessions. It's a genuine partnership — not just a block of hours.
Can I start with a small project and scale up?
Yes — and that's a very common path. Many of our long-term clients started with a focused MVP or a technical audit. Once they experienced our engineering quality and consultative approach, they expanded the engagement. We design every architecture with future scale in mind, so starting small doesn't mean starting over later.
Technical Questions
What technologies do you work with?
We're technology-agnostic — we choose the right tool for the job. Our core stack includes: Frontend: React, Next.js, Vue.js, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS. Backend: Node.js, Python (Django/FastAPI), Java (Spring Boot), .NET, Go. Mobile: React Native, Flutter, native iOS/Android. Cloud: AWS, Azure, GCP. Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis. We also have experience with serverless architectures, microservices, and event-driven systems.
Do you work with no-code or low-code platforms?
Generally, no. Our clients come to us specifically because they've outgrown no-code tools and need custom engineering. That said, we occasionally integrate with low-code platforms for specific internal tooling use cases where it makes strategic sense. We'll always give you an honest assessment of whether custom development is the right path for your specific situation.
How do you ensure code quality?
Code quality is foundational to how we work. Every project includes: automated testing (unit, integration, and E2E), continuous integration with automated build verification, peer code review on every pull request, adherence to established style guides and linting rules, and regular architecture reviews. We build systems that are maintainable, not just functional.
How do you handle security and compliance?
Security is built into our process from day one — not bolted on at the end. We follow OWASP best practices, conduct dependency vulnerability scanning, implement secure authentication and authorization patterns, and ensure data encryption at rest and in transit. For clients in regulated industries (fintech, healthtech), we have experience with SOC 2, HIPAA, and GDPR compliance requirements.
Do you provide documentation?
Yes — comprehensive documentation is a standard deliverable. This includes architecture decision records (ADRs), API documentation, setup and deployment guides, and — where appropriate — code-level comments and README files. We want your team (or future developers) to be able to understand and extend the system without us — even though most clients choose to keep working with us.
What happens to my code and IP?
You own everything. All code, designs, documentation, and intellectual property created during the engagement belong entirely to you. We're a work-for-hire — we build it, you own it. This is specified clearly in every contract.
Partnership & Support
What does ongoing support look like after launch?
Every project includes 30 days of post-launch support by default. For clients who want ongoing peace of mind, our retainer partnerships include proactive infrastructure monitoring, regular security patches and dependency updates, performance monitoring, and a dedicated point of contact for any issues that arise. We don't launch and disappear.
Can you work alongside my existing development team?
Yes — this is one of our core engagement models. We can embed senior engineers into your existing team (team augmentation), provide architectural guidance to your in-house developers, or take ownership of specific components while your team handles others. We're comfortable collaborating with internal teams, other agencies, and third-party vendors.
What if I need to pause or end the engagement?
We keep things straightforward. For retainer partnerships, we typically require 30 days' notice for changes or cancellation. For project-based engagements, the contract specifies milestone-based deliverables and termination terms. Our goal is to make the relationship work long-term — but we believe in fair, transparent exit terms that protect both sides.
How do you handle urgent issues or incidents?
Retainer clients receive priority support with guaranteed response times. For critical incidents (production down, security breach, data loss), we respond within hours — not days. All clients receive a clear escalation path and contact information during onboarding. For project-only clients, post-launch support terms are defined in the initial scope.
How do I get started?
Simple — reach out through our contact form or email us at hello@webtoz.com. Tell us a bit about your project, and we'll schedule a free, no-obligation discovery call (typically 30–45 minutes). From there, we'll assess whether we're a good fit and outline next steps. There's no pressure, no sales pitch — just an honest conversation with a senior engineer.
